After we had Caleb my mom set up a memorial fund at the hospital for people (mainly her friends) to donate to. She wanted to do something special for her grandson and her friends wanted to do something for her so it was great. In November we decided what to do with the money that her friends had given to the fund. We decided to hang something up on the L&D floor where Caleb was born as a way to give other families that lose a baby hope. Hope has been significant for us in the loss of Caleb and the anticipation of Elijah so we chose the picture "Bride of Hope" by Thomas Kinkade.
This is what he says about the painting:
The BRIDGE OF HOPE is as stable as the massive granite flagstones that form its arch and will stand for as long as the quicksilver brook rolls down from the hills beneath it. A magnificent white dogwood, symbol of the purity of God's grace, shades the bridge. Its over-arching boughs remind us that, while we stand on the BRIDGE OF HOPE, we are enshrouded by the loving embrace of our creator.
-- Thomas Kinkade
We had it hung by the elevator for people to see when they get on and off the floor. My mom did all the work of buying it and getting it hung up and it is absolutely beautiful. The painting was hung up right before we had Elijah so our family and friends got to see it when they came to visit.
We wanted to put a plaque on the wall to dedicate the painting in memory of Caleb and in honor of our miracle Elijah. A few weeks ago it was finally put up and we took Elijah up there to see it. It made me cry to see both of their names on the same plaque under such a beautiful and inspiring painting.
Oh, wow. The plaque. I love it! I will have to make sure I look when I'm there next month.
ReplyDeleteThis was so so thoughtful. I'm so glad you have it there.
The pictures are so wonderful of the painting and the plaque. It was such a labor of love to have this done for the boys and for all of those that have to experience loss, but know the joy of hope. I am grateful to friends and family that made this possible.
